Today is Wednesday, which means it’s the day I talk about God’s gifts to us. In my quest to record 1000 Gifts in the Joy Dare Challenge, I am being stretched to really look outside my comfort zone. Today is to record 3 gifts about me. Me?
Ok. I could easily give you a million things that I do wrong. I am no domestic diva. Every day I am tripping over shoes, swimming through a sea of dishes and laundry, and losing things among the dozens of piles in each room. I don’t eat healthy, forget to take my vitamins, and am lazy about exercising. I procrastinate and choose to do things other than what I am suppose to do. Really, I can go on and on and on.
So to think about three things I am or do that are gifts to others? Hmmm…Hear the crickets chirping?
I am uncomfortable. I squirm in my seat. Then God reminds me that He has never made any junk. He created me unique and with special gifts. Embrace them Mary! It is perfectly ok to claim our gifts. Am I good at everything? Nope. But, are there some areas in my life that actually bring joy to others and give God glory? I hope so. I am not any of these things on my own. They are gifts. As much as I would love to excel at financial matters, I never will. That is a gift given to Superman. He will never be comfortable or good at creating something with his hands. I, on the other hand, am known as the “Craft Queen” (or as some have called me, the “Craft Nazi”). God created us all with our own unique abilities and talents to be used to glorify, not ourselves, but Him. For that I give thanks.
271. I seem to make people smile.
I’m not quite sure why people think I’m funny. This is me attempting to do some wanky cheer leading moves. I was feeling a little enthusiastic. Superman says I don’t have much of a filter between my brain and my mouth. I seem to just say whatever comes to my mind. And I guess, sometimes what comes flying out is funny. I don’t take myself too seriously. Life is too short to be all serious all the time.
272. I am helpful.
Do you need your kitchen painted? I’m there with my paintbrush. Going to move into a new place? I’ve got boxes ready. Here I am with the sprayer backpack filled a chlorine bleach solution, ready to spray down my mom’s porch and patio furniture. If I can help ease your burden just a little, I’m there.
273. I am a hostess.
For the past six years, I’ve gladly opened my home to this crazy group of people, my family, for Thanksgiving weekend. Not just for the day, but for the weekend. And I love it! My house is by no means a decorator’s showroom. But it is welcoming and comfortable. I want people to leave here with a smile on their face, glad that they came. I don’t fret too much about everything being perfect. In fact, there’s nothing like having your pastor walk in as smoke is billowing out of the oven. Oops! No biggie. Things like that happen. Dishes can stay in the sink. They can wait until later. I want to spend time with you and let you know how special you are to me.
What are three gifts about you? Are you an encourager? Are you good with numbers and finances? Do you cook and bake for others? Do you have the gift of teaching? Tell what gifts you have in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you.
