When I heard of Linda’s passing, my immediate thought was “Did she know God?” Linda was a vibrant, loving woman in her early 50’s who used to be incredibly intense on the tennis court. A few years ago, she had a massive stroke, fortunately for her, while visiting a friend in the hospital. Because of where she was, her life was saved. The stroke left her terribly handicapped, but she was able to see her only child graduate from high school with honors.
On the outside, Linda may have come across as one tough cookie with her platinum colored hair, full makeup, black clothing and silver scrotum balls which hung from the back of her SUV. But only after a few minutes of talking to her, you knew what a softy she was. She loved people, animals and the earth. In fact she professed to being a Wiccan.
Her rehabilitation from the stroke left her home bound. I knew that I should go to see her, but I had heard that she didn’t really want visitors. So I stayed away. I sent a few cards, but never had the courage to go knock on the door. I was afraid.
I wanted to tell her about Jesus. I wanted her to know how much God loved her. I wanted her to know that the trees and animals that she loved so much were not spirits or gods themselves, but our one and only Holy God’s creations for us.
But I never got the chance. Did she know that Christ died for her sins? Did she know that God created her perfectly? Did she know that He loved her fully and wholly?
Here is my girl baptizing one of two friends of her’s that she introduced to Christ. I had the pleasure of meeting the two young women. One told me about the moment she knew she had to have whatever it is that Mary Claire has. The three of them talked for hours. Mary Claire brought them to church, discipled them and told them the greatest news ever…God sent his son to die for our sins. Anyone who believes this will not die, but will have eternal life. Those two sweet girls do believe. Praise God!
I have felt sick, thinking about my cowardliness with Linda. Why don’t I have more confidence in my faith to share it openly? Why did I let the opportunity slip away? Why can’t I be more like my daughter and bravely speak the truth?
Tears fell today when I heard the news. A week before Linda passing away, a neighbor had asked Linda’s husband about Linda’s spiritual situation. He explained that at the beginning of their marriage, he and Linda went to church, taught bible study and worshipped The Lord. Then Linda became disenchanted with the church when their pastor was caught in an adulterous relationship. Linda confused the messenger with the Message.
But, in this same week her husband and good friend brought Linda back to Christ! She gave her life back to God! Ya’ll! She was Saved!! I know that she is in heaven with Jesus now, fully healed and alive.
I don’t want to waste another opportunity.
Do you know Christ? Do you know why He came? Do you know that there is only one way to heaven? Do you want the joy and peace that surpasses all understanding? Do you know that there is nothing that you can do to work yourself into heaven? It has been done for you! All you have to do is believe.
I want you to know Christ too. If you want to learn more or just want to talk to someone about it, contact me.
Thank you for dropping by!
