I am continuing my Joy Dare Challenge of documenting 1000 Gifts.I admit I am not doing as good a job as I would like. But luckily for me, this blog has me looking at my surroundings a little bit differently at least once a week. You can find more of my entries here.
Last night as I was waiting for my dogs to do their bedtime business, I was struck by the beauty of night. I thought it would make a good Joy Dare entry.
Name three gifts of Night.
344. A Safe Home. I live in a neighborhood where we feel safe from harm, no gunshots or sirens. This home is regulated to a comfortable temperature, teeth are brushed, prayers are said and we snuggle down in cozy beds. I am so thankful.
345. Night Sounds. Being on my deck when the stars and moon are out, is one of my favorite times of the day. I like to just sit on the steps and listen to the frogs and crickets croaking and chattering away. Tonight I watched the last of the summer’s fireflies dance in the air. I’ll take this song and dance show over any Broadway musical! (Image by Judd Patterson)
346. The Moon. No matter how dark a night it is, the moon is still there shining. I went on an overnight field trip with a fifth grade class to a science camp at the beach. One evening we went on a moon walk through the forest with no light except the moon, no flashlights, candles or torches. At first it was a bit disconcerting, but once our eyes got adjusted to the amount of light that was around us, we could actually see pretty well. We thought we were in complete darkness, when actually we were surrounded by light. Has your life ever been in a very dark place, where you thought you would never get out? Did you feel alone? Abandoned? Helpless? Did you know that even during that dark time there was always a light around you? There was and is a warm, comforting, safe and loving light that can show you the right path to take. This light is Jesus Christ. It is never too dark for you to find him. Just give your mind and heart some time to adjust and then you’ll be able to see clearly the path you should be on. (photo credit: jah~ via photopin cc)
